U.S. Trade Office releases Fact Sheets detailing benefits of U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

The Office of U.S. Trade Representative has released Fact Sheets regarding the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

According to the Agriculture Fact Sheet, the key achievement for agriculture include:

Expanded market access for American food and agricultural products.

  1. Elimination of Canada’s Milk Classes 6 and 7.

  2. Setting standards for agricultural biotechnology.

  3. Commitments to reduce trade distorting policies, improve transparency and ensure non-discriminatory treatment for ag product standards.

  4. Fair treatment for quality requirements for wheat.

  5. Strengthening disciplines for science-based sanitary and phytosanitary measures.

  6. New procedural safeguards for recognition of new geographical indications.

  7. Market access for certain cheese names.

  8. Continued recognition of Bourbon Whiskey, Tennessee Whiskey, Tequila, Mezcal and Canadian Whisky as distinctive products.

  9. New protections for proprietary food formulas.
