Dealers report mixed reactions to new Tier 4i engines in 2011 farm vehicles

New study measures customer perception of new engine emissions technology.

It has been seven months since the EPA’s stringent Tier 4i engine emissions regulations went into effect, and customers' reactions to the new engines have been mixed, according to the most recent issue of Ag Equipment Intelligence (AEI). AEI quoted figures from a UBS Investment Research survey of U.S. farm equipment dealers. UBS asked dealers how customers are accepting the new Tier 4 engines. Of the more than 300 responses, 27% of dealers reported a negative customer reception, while 17% say customers were positive to the new equipment. The remaining, 56% reported that customers were “neutral.” When results were segmented by brand, the highest percentage of “positive” responses toward Tier 4 machinery came from Case IH dealers (25%).
