Texas Cooperative Extension sets Multi-County Range and Wildlife Program

Texas Cooperative Extension offices in four Central Texas counties are collaborating to present the 2007 Hill Country Range and Wildlife Program. The program is set for 9 a.m. April 11 in Junction's Coke R. Stevenson Center.

"Interest in wildlife continues to grow as does the interest in wildlife education," said Russell Kott, Extension agent in Kimble County. "To meet that need, organizers have put together a slate of speakers who know this area and its unique requirements. We feel this program will be the wildlife landmark educational event of the year for Central Texas landowners, managers and hunters."

Registration starts at 9 a.m. The program, which includes lunch, is scheduled to end at 1 p.m.

Topics and presenters will include: "Role of Fire in Range Management," Dr. Charles "Butch" Taylor, Sonora Experiment Station superintendent; "Range Management Following a Burn" and "Information on the Cactus Moth," Dr. Allan McGinty, Extension range specialist at San Angelo; "Marketing Deer and Turkey," Dr. Dale Rollins, Extension wildlife specialist at San Angelo, and "Deer vs. Fire," Dr. Jim Gallagher, Extension wildlife specialist at Uvalde.

The program will end with a prescribed burn range tour conducted by Billy Kniffen, Extension agent in Menard County.

Extension offices in Mason, Menard, Kimble and Gillespie counties are hosting the event.

Five Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered: three general and two integrated pest management.

Individual registration is $15. Attendees are asked to RSVP to any of the sponsoring Extension offices by April 5 so an accurate lunch count can be made.
