Producers of corn, cotton, soybeans, grain sorghum, wheat and tobacco can find sample operations budgets online from University of Tennessee Extension and the UT Department of Agricultural Economics.

The site to visit is http://economics.ag.utk.edu/budgets.html

The budget estimates were prepared by Extension farm management area specialists and Extension crop specialists. They provide estimated returns and expenses per acre of production. Many include comparisons between tillage methods (no-tillage versus conventional-tillage).

The fertilizer recommendations in the crop budgets are generally for soils that have a medium soil test. Farmers should have their soils tested in order to get the maximum return for money spent for fertilizer. As crop programs are planned, the fertilizer applications can be adjusted to the soil test recommendations.

Those without Internet access or who have questions about the budgets should contact their local county UT Extension office.
