Farmers’ heads were nodding approval during a presentation by Dan Frieberg, as he showcased how farmers and advisors are using data to make profitable decisions.

Since Frieberg founded Premier Crop in 1999, their mission has been to assist growers and their trusted agronomic advisors to create real value from geo-referenced agronomic data. His team converts data to knowledge that supports improved production decisions in an economic and sustainable manner. “We’re a web-based software company that acts like an agronomy company—using crop yield files and many layers of data to measure spatial variability across fields,” he says.

During this Ag Data Conference session, Frieberg said a lot of our attention is focused on driving higher yields—as higher yield really does add profits. “But, high yield must also be as efficient as possible. Squeeze more bushels out of every pound of nutrient you apply.”

He encouraged attending farmers to start doing data analytics (or hire it done) to show relationships between all the yield maps, to find cost per bushel on field or sub-field level.
