RULES OF THE ROAD: Matt Jungmann, events manager for Informa/Farm Progress, owner of the Farm Progress Show and Husker Harvest Days, outlines the show rules for golf cars and on-site camping.

As the weather warms, we turn our attention to the spring and summer, and for me it’s a look at what’s ahead for our big fall shows. We’ve got big news for both Farm Progress Show and Husker Harvest Days.

Both shows will be home to an innovative “hands-off” demonstration. This area will be where the robots roam, doing demonstration farm work for all to see. For Farm Progress Show, farmers will be the first in the United States to see the Dot Technology automated tractor and implement system. And we’ll see that same machine in Nebraska at Husker Harvest Days.

That’s just the beginning for this automation demonstration area. We expect more participants by the time the gates open.

And we’re building on the work we started in 2019. For both shows this year, farmers interested in learning more about opportunities surrounding the production and marketing of hemp can visit our hemp display to visit with many companies working to maximize this versatile crop.

Farm Progress Show tile

We’ll continue our tiling demonstration at the Iowa site, with the mains going in ahead of planting. That means we’ll be ready to go with our tiling demonstrations when visitors show up.

And this year, John Deere is planting our field demo fields again, probably at 10 mph. That gives you the chance to check how the corn came up and the precision of the planter at work.

Husker Harvest Days and beef

Last year, we started a new program in the livestock area with regional experts from BEEF magazine talking about some hot topics. We’re continuing that this year with a look at marketing, a long-term grazing study and presentations by Amanda Radke on how to work with a changing consumer market.

And you’ll see some new buildings on site as exhibitors continue to invest in the facility.

So make plans to join us at either the Farm Progress Show, Sept. 1-3; or Husker Harvest Days, Sept. 15-17. You can keep up on the shows at their respective websites, farmprogressshow.com and huskerharvestdays.com.
