A group of tech engineers in California's Salinas Valley recently had a chance to learn first-hand about how processing plants work and what technology facilties use.

Ten startup owners at Western Growers' Center for Innovation and Technology toured GreenGate Fresh, a raw leafy greens harvesting, processing and packaging facility.

GreenGate Fresh is lead by Robert K. Barkley, Travis Pendleton, Jay Iverson and Keith Bazabal, who have more than 100 years of combined experience in the agriculture industry. It is this depth of experience that makes them a vital contact for WGCIT innovators.

To help its members do more with less, the WGCIT was created to help identify industry priorities, discover technologies to address those priorities, set up testing, facilitate industry feedback and communicate progress to California, Arizona and Colorado fresh produce farmers.
