If you have been wondering how to get started with cover crops, we have the answer! It’s in your smartphone.

The Midwest Cover Crops Field which is a combination of work from the Purdue Crop Diagnostic Training and Research Center and the Midwest Cover Crops Council.

The app is a pocket field guide available as a mobile app for iPhone and Android. Access all the same information available in the print pocket guide, on your phone or tablet! The app includes additional photos to the app, as well as links to other useful information.

To locate it go to the App store or Google Play and search for “Cover Crop.”  The app will download for free, but to access all the information you will need a $2.99 yearly subscription. You will be prompted to renew your subscription one year after your purchase date.

The app includes sections on:

  • Getting started,

  • Seeding methods,

  • Weed and herbicide concerns,

  • Pests,

  • Cover crop species

  • and a Pure live seed calculator.

The printed field guide will continue to be available through the Purdue Extension Education Store.
