Sygenta: Quilt rice fungicide

Rice growers now have a new fungicide from Syngenta that will allow them to customize their disease control program for bottom-line performance. Quilt fungicide, recently registered by EPA for use in all rice-growing states except California, provides highly effective, broad-spectrum control against many challenging rice diseases, including sheath blight and kernel smut.

Quilt is also registered for use on cereal crops, sweet corn and grasses grown for seed.

Quilt combines the time-proven performance of Quadris and Tilt fungicides to offer growers a simplified approach to disease control.

With two modes of action, represented by the active ingredients azoxystrobin and propiconazole, Quilt targets different sites within the fungus to prevent resistance and provide sustainable disease control.

“With the increased adoption of new, taller varieties of rice, growers need help protecting their crops from diseases that can rob them of both quality and yield,” says Steve Harrison, technical crop manager for Syngenta Crop Protection. “Quilt, being a pre-mix of two very effective fungicides, provides the broad-spectrum sheath/stem disease control of Quadris with effective kernel smut control through the addition of Tilt.”

Quilt is highly effective, particularly in taller varieties as well as semi-dwarf varieties that are susceptible to both sheath blight and kernel smut. By carefully matching Quilt to variety disease susceptibility and precisely timing applications, growers can be assured of optimum protection and return on investment.

Active against all stages of fungal pathogens, Quilt offers protectant, curative and eradicant activity to protect rice from many troublesome diseases. Quilt also is highly systemic and quickly penetrates the plant to resist wash-off and protect new plant growth.

“Rice growers who have been satisfied with Quadris in the past are going to be really pleased with the level of disease-fighting protection Quilt provides,” said Doug Anderson, crop manager for Syngenta Crop Protection. “Together, Quilt and Quadris allow growers to customize their disease control program. This prescriptive fungicide approach helps them maximize both yield and quality.”
