Michigan Sugar Co. continued its partnership with United Way of Bay County by distributing about 6,600 pounds of sugar for use by 43 local food banks throughout the fall.

“Michigan Sugar is proud to help area food banks with a sugar donation several times each year, with a focus on holiday seasons that increase demand on food banks regionwide,” says Ray VanDriessche, community and government relations director for Michigan Sugar. “Michigan Sugar Co.’s employees and our 1,100 farmer-owners are committed to giving back to communities throughout the growing region, and this fall’s sugar donation is one way we can help.”

Archie Gittins, AFL-CIO Community Services director with United Way of Bay County, says, “As we assist food banks to prepare for an increase in demand around the holidays, United Way of Bay County truly appreciates the partnership of Michigan Sugar and many others throughout the region to help families in need. United Way looks forward to assisting more than 40 food banks regionwide, with help from today’s donation by Michigan Sugar Co.”

The sugar donation will benefit food banks spanning Bay, Saginaw, Arenac, Midland and Tuscola counties, providing 100 2-pound bags of sugar to each partnering food bank. The food banks will then directly distribute sugar to local families.
