Zetor North America, Inc. is putting the Major Series utility tractor on the market in North America and the first model available is an 80-horsepower cab model with 4WD.

As the series expands, the company plans to add a 60- and 70- hp model in two-wheel drive and an open-station platform to go with them.

The Major line of Zetors was popular world wide from 1960 to 2006, and the re-introduction of the machine will bring the same rugged, reliability and utility the earlier models were known for, says Gary Bogart of ZNA.

The Zetor Major is back in the U.S. tractor market with an 80 horsepower engine, 4WD and a cab. Zetor says 60- and 70- hp models will follow.

Along with its heavy frame, the Czech-built Major features a rugged, reliable and easy-to-service 4-cylinder Zetor diesel engine free from complex electronics and computer controls. The power plant features a torque rise of more than 35%, reducing the need for frequent downshifting under load.

The Major will have 12X12 synchro-shuttle gearbox and a user-friendly hydraulic system. With lift capacity of more than 5,500 pounds, the Major ranks as one of the most powerful in its class.

The Major is the first of several products planned for the North American market over the next 18 months.
