Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction raises $321,950. a drop from the 2015 record.

The 48th annual Governor's Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction at the 2016 Wisconsin State Fair raised a total of $321,950, down from $419,750 last year which set a record.

Bucky Badger and the UW-Marching Band welcomed bidders and fairgoers to the Case IH Coliseum and set the tone for an exciting night. The exhibitors and their champion animals joined Gov. Scott Walker on stage as the auction kicked off at 6:30 p.m. Bidding commenced with the grand champion steer (crossbred) exhibited by Tori Crisp of Union Grove in Racine County. The 1317-pound steer sold for $52,500 with the winning bid from Kenosha Beef International/Birchwood Foods.

The annual auction recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of Wisconsin’s youth exhibitors. Following are winning bids for the 2016 Governor’s Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction:

• Grand champion barrow (crossbred) exhibited by Bryce Friday of Green Lake County, $17,600 by Meijer and Fire Wagon Racing

• Grand champion lamb (crossbred) exhibited by Reid Suddeth of Iowa County, $16,000 by WalMart

• Reserve grand champion steer (crossbred) exhibited by Lauren May of Iowa County, $15,000 by Meijer

• Reserve grand champion barrow (Yorkshire) exhibited by Carly Tibbits of Iowa County, $13,000 by Johnsonville Sausage 

• Reserve grand champion lamb (Hampshire) exhibited by Sara Johnson of Walworth County, $15,000 by Meijer (a record)

• Champion Maine-Anjou steer exhibited by Tori Kohlway of Sheboygan County, $14,000 by Beechwood Sales & Service

• Champion Duroc barrow exhibited by Danny Pitz of Iowa County, $7,500 by Statewide Fencing Inc. and Interstate Parking

• Champion natural colored lamb exhibited by Malorie Johnson of Iowa County, $3,000 by Active Property Management Group and Cable Contract Services

• Champion Chianina steer exhibited by Austin Lynd of Rock County, $12,000 by Wisconsin Souvenir Milkcaps

• Champion Hampshire barrow exhibited by Cole Weinkauf of Racine County, $12,000 by Beechwood Sales & Service
