The popular Wisconsin State Fair Performance Lamb Contest will include a live evaluation component in 2009. The live component, which will count towards 20% of overall placing, will be held during a special class at the 2009 Fair. Rate of gain and carcass merit will each count for 40% of overall placing. Performance lambs may also compete in the market lamb show on Wednesday, Aug. 12. Lambs will be harvested at the completion of the Junior Fair and final results will be announced immediately after the Fair.
The performance lamb contest provides youth an opportunity to learn about important performance traits which are essential to successful sheep production.
