Wisconsin Farmers Union Specialty Cheese Company, LLC, announced today the sale of the company to Arthur Schuman Inc. ASI is a fourth-generation, family-owned domestic business and a leader in U.S. cheese production.
ASI plans to continue production of cheese from Wisconsin milk at the Montfort, plant. The company has been the exclusive distributor of WFUSCC's Montforte Bleu and Gorgonzola Cheeses since January 2009.
"The WFUSCC board of managers felt now was an appropriate time to sell the company and focus on the Wisconsin Farmers Union mission and main purpose, and the needs of its members. The sale of the cheese company will allow more time and resources to be put toward the general farm organization to improve the quality of life for family farmers and rural communities," said Sue Beitlich, WFUSCC president.
"We have had a very satisfying relationship with ASI since the beginning of 2009. The board of managers was committed to making a financially sound decision for the organization and selling the company to a family-owned business that would continue to produce award-winning Wisconsin cheeses. We are pleased that ASI will continue cheese production at the Montfort plant with milk from our Wisconsin farmers," Beitlich said.
