Vote for Promote Clean Water among Farmers, Minnesotans

The Freshwater Society and the National Park Service seek votes for innovative partnership idea.

The MN Idea Open, a public grant-making competition, is focusing on water issues in Minnesota and has narrowed a list of more than 100 ideas down to three finalists.

One of them, Minnesota FarmWise, submitted by the Freshwater Society and the National Park Service, proposes to focus on farming and its impact on the environment. Organizers say they would recruit active and retired farmers who have successfully implemented water-friendly conservation farming techniques in their fields and who are active in their communities to address critical issues of clean water. They would act as ambassadors, educating the public and showing other farmers their own water-friendly practices. They also would work with other farmers to help them adopt water-friendly farming techniques on fields in vulnerable water areas.

The FarmWise proposal is vying for the top grant of $15,000.

Votes must be cast online by Sept. 5.
