Versatile Makes Rotary Combine Intro Official

Well-tested Rostselmach rotary combine dons Versatile's red paint scheme as RT490.

As we told you last October (VERSATILE) a new combine was on its way to North America in a rotary machine from Versatile.

The new RT490 Versatile is being introduced at the Canadian Farm Progress Show, and features a 360-degree concave that rotates counter to its rotor, producing more efficient harvesting and increased capacity. A four-state feeder house with a unique inclined chamber replaces traditional feeder housing with four beaters. The configuration provides a uniform layer of material to enter the rotor.

The RT490 carries a 340 bu. grain tank with hopper extensions that are controlled from the cab.

Versatile's new rotary combine is making its debut at Canada's Farm Progress Show. The machine features a 360-degree concave that rotates counter to its rotor for increased capacity.

Power comes from a 490 horsepower Cummins QSX 11.9 L engine that meets Tier 4A emission standards.

Based on a design from Rostselmach, parent company to Buhler Industries -- maker of  Versatile products -- the RT490 is a North American version of the Russian Torum combine. Seven of the Torum machines were active over the 2011 harvest season in the Mississippi Delta, the Pacific Northwest and through the small grain belt of U.S. and Canada to prove their abilities and gain data for marketing them in the U.S. and Canada.

Rostselmach has been building harvesters for nearly 100 years, says Adam Reid, Versatile's marketing director, who notes this Class VIII combine is simple and convenient to operate and maintain.

Reid says the number of lubrication points and mechanical drives that need adjustment have been minimized in the RT490's design and those that are necessary are easily accessible.
