There's a new women in agriculture group at University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Sigma Alpha Alumni of UW-Platteville has been chartered and has been nationally recognized by the National Sigma Alpha Sorority at the group's April meeting.
The UW-Platteville Sigma Alpha Sorority was chartered in April 2005. It is a professional sorority that promotes scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship with its members.
Sigma Alpha sorority encourages the "cultivation" of women in agriculture.
"As a charter member of the active organization when I was an agriculture education student at UW-Platteville, I am very proud of our national alumni charter," Alumni President Becky Hurley said. "We hope to develop and support a strong and growing network of women in the agriculture community not only here in Wisconsin but nationally and internationally."
Nearly 10,000 women have been initiated into the active sorority since its beginnings in 1978. The goals of the alumni organization are to also help the active members at UW-Platteville by providing networking opportunities, scholarships and career development.
Any woman who was a member of their active chapter in college can become an alumni member of the UW-Platteville Sigma Alpha Alumni Chapter.
