Last year's outing raised nearly $30,000 for scholarships

Tee off with the UW-Madison Department of Dairy Science at the 10th annual Dave Dickson Memorial Golf Classic, scheduled for Wednesday, May 20 at the award winning University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.

All proceeds support the dairy science department's undergraduate student scholarship program, as well as high-impact learning activities such as student travel, hands-on learning laboratories and undergraduate research. Last year's outing raised nearly $30,000 for those programs.

The Golf Classic uses a scramble format, where each team member plays the ball closest to the hole after each shot. The event is open to the public. A registration fee of $120 per golfer pays for 18 holes of golf, cart rental, free lunch and lots of prizes.

Individuals or companies can support the event through a sponsorship or donation. One option is to sponsor a hole for $325 or $750 (the latter includes one team registration for four golfers). A lunch sponsorship for $2,000 is available and comes with special event signage and one team registration. Two additional options, a beverage sponsorship and a post-match social sponsorship, are both offered at $600 and $1,000 levels and come with one team registration.

There will be both a silent and live auction, featuring a variety of dairy-related items and sports memorabilia. Donations of auction items are welcome and will be accepted until May 11. Items should have a minimum real value of $50 for the silent auction and $150 for the live auction. Auction items can be viewed at http://dysci.wisc.edu/ under either the alumni or donor tabs. Contributions beyond the actual cost of the golf or any auction item are tax deductible, as allowed by law.

"It's a great way to socialize and have fun, but more importantly, the event benefits our students. This is an opportunity to invest in the future of the dairy industry," says Kent Weigel, professor and chair of the dairy science department.

Additional information and the event brochure can be found at http://dysci.wisc.edu/. To register or to learn more about donations or sponsorships, contact Cathy Rook at rook@wisc.edu or call 608-263-3308.
