USDA Announced Conservation Grant Sign-Up

$20 million in innovation grants available for fiscal year 2007.

The Conservation Innovation Grants program is accepting proposals, USDA Secretary Mike Johanns announced Monday. Up to $20 million will be available for the National CIG competition for fiscal year 2007.

USDA's Natural Resource Conservation Service administers CIG, a program that aims to help landowners develop conservation approaches and technologies. A nationwide competitive grants process will accept applications for projects lasting one to three years.

The three available CIG categories are as follows:

Natural Resource Concerns: up to $10 million for proposals addressing CIG natural resource concerns.

Chesapeake Bay Watershed: up to $5 million for proposals within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

Technology: up to $5 million for proposals addressing CIG technology categories.
