More than 50 Wisconsin high school students attend event in Eau Claire.

More than 50 Wisconsin high school students attended the Cooperative Network CO-OPS YES! Youth Leadership Conference, April 19-20, 2010, at the Plaza Hotel & Suites in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

United Cooperative, based out of Beaver Dam, with locations throughout south-central Wisconsin, sponsored two Reedsburg Area High School students to attend the conference. JoEtte Horkan, Reedsburg, is the daughter of Tracy and Suzie Horkan. Katie Knuth, Loganville, is the daughter of Mike and Lesa Knuth.

Students in grades 10, 11, and 12 were eligible to participate in this exciting and educational program. The conference was designed to help them gain a better understanding of the role and operation of cooperatives. They were also taught to develop leadership skills, discover a problem-solving process they can use, and adjust to the teen issues they face.

The conference included a session on maximizing students' potential, and participants also learned about credit unions, alternative energy sources, careers in agriculture and cooperatives.  The highlight of the conference was "Breakthrough Leadership Skills", a hands-on leadership workshop presented by Craig Hillier, CSP, Winning Edge Seminars, Lakeville, Minnesota.

Formed in 1936, United Cooperative is a full-service cooperative offering feed, grain, agronomy, and energy products and services to Wisconsin farmers and consumers.
