Triple Corn Trait Gets EPA Approval

The EPA grants registration to Syngenta's CB/LL/RW corn trait stack.

The Environmental Protection Agency has granted registration approval for Syngenta's triple corn trait stack, Agrisure CB/LL/RW, Syngenta announced Thursday. The approval will also allow Syngenta to offer its quad corn trait stack, Agrisure GT/CB/LL/RW.

The triple stack combines corn borer protection, Liberty herbicide tolerance, and rootworm control. The quad stack adds tolerance to glyphosate herbicides. Syngenta now awaits USDA authorization to ship the trait, expected to come in time for the 2007 planting.

Syngenta says that the Agrisure CB/LL component has demonstrated a 7 bushels per acre advantage compared to corn lacking the traits, and that the CB/LL trait works well against Southwestern corn borer, fall armyworm, Southern cornstalk borer and corn earworm. With the addition of the RW component, the triple stack has demonstrated a 42 bushel yield advantage over corn lacking the triple stack, Syngenta says.

For the 2007 growing season, growers who plant a corn hybrid with any Agrisure trait, including Agrisure CB/LL/RW, automatically receive comprehensive assurances.
