Tractor Pull To Benefit Fallen Soldiers' Families

Hoober Benefit Tractor/Truck Pull set for Aug. 27 in Chestertown, Md.

Engines will roar and tires will smoke in Chestertown, Md., for a great cause – The Hoober Benefit Tractor/Truck Pull at the Chestertown Elks Lodge on Saturday, August 27.

Competition cranks up at the Chestertown Elks Lodge with antique tractors starting at 9 a.m., followed by trucks and farm tractors at 4 p.m.  Proceeds from the pull will benefit The Fisher House at Dover Air Force Base. The facility provides suites and services for families of military personnel who have lost their lives while serving their country.

PULLING FOR OUR PATRIOTS: This Saturday's truck and tractor pull to benefit grieving military families.

"Each year we choose a different beneficiary of the pull," says Hoober's Dave Wharry, who has helped organize each of the benefit pulls. "We generally look to the local farming community for a family under some stress that can be helped out by a financial donation.

"This year, we decided we wanted to benefit military families in thanks for all they do. And we found out that Dover Air Force Base is a Fisher House location."

While the cause being supported is serious, Wharry adds that the event is going to be full of fun and excitement.

"This is just a great way to bring the community together for a good cause and having a good time doing it," said Wharry. "The competition is really fun. We have so many people who help us out by volunteering, knowing that the only thing they will take home at the end of the day is the satisfaction of helping others."

The two previous Hoober benefit pulls raised over $50,000 combined through proceeds of the pulls, donations from sponsors and individuals. Wharry is hopeful that this year's event will be equally or even more successful.

"At Dover Air Force Base, the role of The Fisher House is to provide help to families who are receiving the bodies of their loved ones who have died defending our country," explains Wharry. "We just want to be able to help in any way we can."
