A new start-up, Agric-Bioformatics, is trying to make genetic testing for cattle producers a simpler process.
President and CEO Sean Akadiri founded the company with the idea that existing genetic testing techniques could be streamlined through a web-based application that provides genetic information in a visual format.
Akadiri's method isn't quite to the beta-testing stage, a report from the Journal Record says, but he does have seed money to move the project forward and plans to have another $500,000 by August.
Akadiri is focusing the program on smaller beef producers who do not have resources for large testing methods and analytics. He expects it to be a subscription-based model.

While there are several options for cattle producers looking to improve their genetics programs, the price has to be right, an Oklahoma State University economist told the Journal Record, and the costs for genetic testing already have dropped significantly since 2000.
