Swift and Positive Reaction Toward Johanns After Resignation

Many groups and individuals were quick to praise Johanns' leadership of USDA.

Former Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns was praised for his service to agriculture since taking over USDA in 2005. Senate Ag Committee Chairman Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, and Congressman Jerry Moran, R-Kansas, both spoke of the good working relationship they shared with Johanns and his commitment to the farm bill process. Bob Stallman of the American Farm Bureau Federation praised Johanns' advocacy of renewable energy, new technologies and fair trade with foreign markets. National Cattlemen's Beef Association President John Queen and Nation Pork Producers Council President Jill Appell both spoke of him as a true friend of livestock producers.
