Sunflower Showcase Coming To Delphos

Sunflower Showcase Coming To Delphos
Annual sunflower event in Delphos will offer the latest research on sunflower production practices.

The Central Kansas Extension District is teaming up with the National Sunflower Association High Plains Committee and the Delphos Cooperative Association to host the 2011 Sunflower Showcase on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at the Meadowlark Academy in Delphos, Kansas.

Formerly known as the Sunflower Celebration, this newly revamped event will feature presenters and information on the forefront of sunflower production in Kansas.

Thanks to the support of Mycogen Seeds, Croplan Genetics, and Syngenta, this will be a free program to all producers.

The day will begin at 8 a.m. with breakfast in town followed by tours of local sunflower fields.  The focus of the day will be on the economics of double-crop sunflowers versus double-crop soybeans.  However, participants will also have the opportunity to view full-season flowers as well.

During the tours, experts from K-State Research & Extension and Delphos Coop will be offering production strategies for both scenarios in the areas of fertility, pest control, weed management, and general agronomics.

After the field tours, attendees will travel back for lunch and a discussion on hybrid selection with participating seed companies.  An afternoon speaker panel will follow with presentations on farm policy, marketing, and updates from the National Sunflower Association and Kansas Sunflower Commission.  In addition, John Jenkinson with AM 1030 KBUF Radio will be broadcasting live from the event throughout the day.

Pre-registration is required to get an accurate count for the meals.  For more information or to RSVP by Wednesday, August 24, please contact Joni Wilson with Northern Sun/ADM in Goodland at 785-899-6500 or the CKD Extension Office in Minneapolis at 785-392-2147.
