If you haven't already written about your favorite experience in FFA and sent it in for the Indiana Prairie Farmer/ CountryMark essay contest, do it today! A whole array of awards await lucky winners. Plus, CountryMark will donate $10 for every essay submitted up to the first 500 essays to the Indiana FFA Foundation.
Adults are competing for 500, 350 or 100 gallons of premium diesel fuel provided by CountryMark. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that's big bucks in today's economy. And many of you out there are former FFA members with an experience to share. It can be serious, humorous or show how you learned a lesson. Just put your thoughts on paper.
Those 21 and under can enter the youth division, and win cash. A total of $500 from CountryMark will be divided amongst top finishers.
In addition, there is a chapter challenge component. If your chapter submits 10 essays, including adults who indicate your chapter name, you are eligible to win additional cash from Farm Progress Companies. Farm Progress is offering two cash prizes to the FFA chapters that submit the most entries. However, your chapter must submit at least 10 entries to be eligible.
The judges are patiently waiting for essays to read. If you're an adult, take a few minutes in the evening or the next time it rains and jot down your thoughts. If you're a student, enter on your own, bring it up at a chapter meeting, or ask your advisor how your chapter can enter a block of essays. You will be learning, helping the Indiana FFA Foundation and competing for cash awards for yourself and your chapter, all at the same time.
The rules are straightforward. In the youth division, write an essay between 250 and 300 words. In the adult division, write between 250 and 350 words. Send your entry with a cover page to: Susan Hayhurst, 14477 S. Carlisle Street, Terre Haute, IN 47802. The cover letter should include your name, address, phone number, and cell and email information if available. Also indicate which FFA chapter you represent.
Decision of the judges will be final. Farm Progress reserves the right to publish any entries obtained without compensation.Hurry! All entries must be postmarked by April 15. Since that's a Sunday. We'll honor April 16 postmarks.
