Step Up Hoof Health with the PDPW Hoof Care Training

Sessions planned Dec. 12 and Dec. 13.

Take a step in the right direction for your herd with the Hoof Care Training Sessions. National experts and top hoof trimmers will share their expertise and answer your questions during these hands-on, one-day trainings.

This year's Hoof Care Training Sessions will be held in two locations so you can select the session most convenient for you. On Wednesday, Dec. 12, don't miss the Hoof Care Training Session held at the Sleep Inn, located in the Eau Claire Travel Center. On Thursday, Dec. 13, the session will travel to the Country Inn & White House Banquets in Richland Center, Wis. These sessions are developed and coordinated by Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin.

These one-day seminars will showcase new strategies in foot health that will help producers improve on-farm profitability through increased mobility, production and longevity. Experts Dr. Jan Shearer, Dr. David Rhoda, Jerry Bowman and Karl Burgi will help you put the right foot forward. And one-of-a-kind labs with cadavers will show you everything from first symptoms to what's really happening inside the hoof.

World renowned hoof expert, Dr. Jan Shearer will jumpstart the session highlighting hoof care, anatomy and management. You'll learn how the hoof works and what happens in the cow that ripples through every aspect of your operation and cash flows.

Dr. Shearer is Professor and Dairy Extension Veterinarian at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. He serves the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences and holds an affiliate appointment in the Department of Dairy Science. He has served as consultant to dairy operations and the allied dairy industry both nationally and internationally.

A full day of high-level discussions and demonstrations with cadavers will give you a strong understanding of hoof health for your herd. Topping off the conference, you will have the opportunity to ask questions of industry's leading hoof care specialists who can provide valuable answers and insight!

Hoof Care Training Sessions registration is $125 for PDPW members and $175 for non-members. Cost for full-time college and high school students is only $75. Please register by Saturday, December 1. No walk-ins will be accepted as registration is limited to 80 attendees each day. Lunch, breaks and all learning materials will be provided. Cost for a dairy to become a PDPW member is $75 annually, which includes all employees and family on the dairy.
