If you're itching to show or just be around cattle and you can't even wait one more week for Hoosier Beef Congress, then you need to be in New Castle in Henry County this Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. Forget Black Friday shopping and opt for some Black Friday showing!
The Thanksgiving Classic Preview Show will be held Nov. 29 and 30 at the Henry County 4-H Fairgrounds, located at Memorial Park, just off Indiana state road 3 just north of New Castle.
Organizers say the show features $10,000 in cash and prizes. The grand champion steer and grand champion heifer will earn $1,000 each, plus many more prizes for animals placing down the line.
You can check-in Friday from 8 a.m. EST to 2 p.m. EST. The entry fee is $40 per head, and $10 for showmanship. You can enter the judging contest for free. Heifer check-in runs until 10 p.m. Friday evening, with check-in Saturday morning from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.
The judging contest will be held at 9 a.m. on Friday. Diana Arellano, FFA advisor at Knightstown High School, is in charge of the judging contest. Cattle used in the judging contest will be show cattle. The first 30 head of cattle registered by 9 a.m. on Friday are eligible for a 50% entry fee discount if used in the judging contest.
There are divisions for junior-age students with no reasons, senior-age students without reasons, senior-age students with reasons and also a jackpot division for high school graduates through 21 years old. Entry fee for the jackpot division is $10 per person.
The showmanship contest open to all exhibitors will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday. Steer judging begins at 5 p.m. The heifer show will begin Saturday morning at 8 a.m. For more information about any part of the show, call 765-524-0425, 765-524-0238 or 765-686-1000.
