South Korea Could Decide Soon on U.S. Beef

A decision could come this week.

According to South Korea's Yonhap News, Korean officials will decide sometime this week whether or not to resume inspections of U.S. beef imports.

Yonhap cited an anonymous official in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry who says a decision will come within the week.

"We received the U.S. government's explanation on the cause of the incident and its future precautions last Thursday," the source says.

However, U.S. officials expect Seoul to impose new conditions. "We are taking additional measures and have agreed that any plant that gets suspended for shipping bone-in product will stay suspended until the new protocol is negotiated and in place," says USDA deputy under secretary Chuck Lambert.
