South Dakota has launched a natural cattle and beef programs as part of its South Dakota Certified brand
"This is a logical step for us to take as we continue to find new markets for our South Dakota Certified Cattle program," says Bill Even, South Dakota secretary of agriculture.
"The global natural and organic food markets experienced double-digit growth the past two years and the expected growth rate for 2007/2008 should exceed 15% each year. There is no question that natural and organic products are now a true market segment and not simply a niche or fad."
South Dakota Certified Natural Beef is produced from cattle enrolled in the South Dakota Certified Enrolled Cattle Natural Program. These cattle are certified to have been raised without the use of antibiotics or hormones in addition to many other strict production protocols. The beef product is also guaranteed to be minimally processed and contain no artificial colors or flavors.
Cattle must be born, raised, finished and processed in South Dakota and meet other production requirements.
