SirusXM Launches Radio Channel for Rural Interests

SirusXM Launches Radio Channel for Rural Interests

Partnership with RFD-TV brings programming for rural interests to satellite radio

SiriusXM Radio Wednesday announced the creation of RURAL RADIO, a radio channel covering rural and agribusiness interests. It can be found on channel 80 starting July 15.

RURAL RADIO's original programming will include commodity market reporting, lifestyle programming, original and classic entertainment, and western sports, such as rodeo and bull riding. RURAL RADIO will also include audio from many of RFD-TV's most popular shows.

Farm broadcasters Mark Oppold and Janet Adkison will anchor three daily, weekday shows—Commodity Wrap, Rural Evening News and Market Day Report. Livestock-specific shows will include Horse Talk and Vets on Call, both of which will take listener questions.

Western sports will be broadcast throughout the week, including Professional Bull Riding and rodeo news and events.

"RURAL RADIO is designed to fill the growing demand for more rural content that is being ignored by urban-based broadcasters.  I want to publicly thank the SiriusXM executives for seeing this opportunity and stepping up to fill this void," said Patrick Gottsch, Founder of Rural Media Group, Inc.

RURAL RADIO's broadcast operations will be based in Nashville, Tenn., along with Rural Media Group, Inc. Corporate offices, sales, and marketing will be headquartered in Omaha, Neb.

There will be an official launch August 3 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which will include an attempt to set the Guinness World Record for a parade of Pickup Trucks with all the trucks' radios tuned to RURAL RADIO.

A complete broadcast program schedule will be made available on or before July 15, 2013 at
