Another Senator is calling out to EPA on behalf of farmers. In a letter to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson Senator Richard Lugar, R-Ind., urged Federal regulators to use common sense as they consider tightening rules on the dust kicked up by the nation's farms. Lugar specifically outlined concerns about the potential impact stricter dust regulations could have on farms and rural communities.
Lugar pointed out that as an Indiana farm owner he knows that many farm activities such as harvesting and plowing fields can generate dust. Lugar told Jackson that as EPA weighs imposing tighter dust rules under the Clean Air Act it should be mindful of the impact they may have on farmers as well as farm-related businesses, counties and government entities that maintain roads.
