Senate Passes Peru Agreement

The free trade agreement has been passed by wide margin.

The Senate voted 77-18 Tuesday in favor of the Peru Trade Promotion Agreement. That follows the House passage by a vote of 285-132 on Nov. 8. The bill now goes to the President for his signature. As soon as laws of both countries are adjusted to abide by the agreement, it will go into effect.

"This strong bipartisan vote by the United States Senate for the Peru Trade Promotion Agreement will ensure a vibrant two-way trade relationship and enduring friendship in our hemisphere," says U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab. "Currently, nearly all products from Peru enter the U.S. market duty free. With this agreement, American farmers, ranchers, manufacturers, service providers, and their employees will gain reciprocal access to Peru's growing market."
