Sassy Cow Creamery Premium Farmstead Vanilla and Chocolate ice cream flavors have been awarded first place in the Regular Vanilla Ice Cream and Regular Chocolate Ice Cream categories in the 2012 World Dairy Expo Dairy Product Championship Contest. Sassy Cow Ice Cream Makers Brenda Brace, Linda Choudoir and Juli Cooper's Vanilla flavor earned a perfect score of 100 from the judging panel. The event was recently held in Madison.
The contest attracted a record 720 entries competing in 75 product categories from a wide array of dairy processors throughout North America. The prestigious, all-dairy national contest, sponsored by the Wisconsin Dairy Products Association, is the only judging contest of its kind in North America to include all dairy products. An awards ceremony and auction of first-place entries will be held the week of World Dairy Expo, Oct. 2-6 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison.
Sassy Cow Creamery Premium Farmstead Ice Cream is made fresh using milk produced by the Baerwolf families' dual dairy herds —400-cow traditional dairy and 150-cow organic dairy, located just north of Sun Prairie.
The 45 and counting farmstead ice cream flavors include seasonal specialties for fall. Taste a scoop or two of Apple Pie, Cinnamon and Pumpkin Praline, along with dozens of creative varieties like Purple Cow (black raspberry with chocolate chips), Chocolate Almond Toffee and Salted Caramel. The Creamery's newest sensation, Tira-Moo-Su, a coffee-flavored ice cream is a twist on the classic Italian dessert made with ladyfingers and Crave Brothers Farmstead Classics Mascarpone Cheese.
The Creamery is owned and operated by third-generation dairy producers—brothers James and Robert Baerwolf and their families. Visitors to the farmstead facility can follow the milk from cow to creamery as they watch traditional and organic milk bottling and premium ice cream making through a viewing window.
