Ready For Precision Ag's Next Step?

Aug. 30 precision ag technology event expected to draw farmers from five states.

Tuesday, Aug. 30, will be a big, busy day at the Caroline County 4-H Park, Denton, Md. It's the site for a Mid-Atlantic Precision Ag Equipment Day, with nationally recognized speakers on precision farming technology.

Registration opens at 8 a.m. with a program loaded with precision ag experts. Speakers include:

Randy Taylor, Oklahoma State University, on yield monitors and maps: Putting data to use with on-farm research

John Fulton, Auburn University, on sprayer section control

Mike Buschermohle, University of Tennessee, on automatic section control: Planter technologies

Matt Darr, Iowa State University, on economics and practical implementation of RTK and advanced GPS

CHECK OUT THE SUB-SURFER: This prototype machine designed to incorporate poultry litter with variable-rate precision will be on display.

Bobby Grisso, Virginia Tech,  on soil mapping with Veris

Farmers and ag service providers can come learn about the latest developments in ag equipment. We've got a slate of the very top equipment and machinery engineers from across the country coming to speak, says Josh McGrath, University of Maryland Extension leader in environmental sciences and technology.

Break-out sessions include teaching how to develop your own variable rate plan. In the Midway area, equipment dealers will be showing and demonstrating their equipment.

Partners in the event include: University of Maryland, University of Delaware, Penn State, West Virginia University and Virginia Tech Extension, plus Atlantic Tractor, Hoober, Inc., Mid-Atlantic Farm Credit, Pioneer Hi-Bred, Southern States Co-op, and Willard Agri-Service.
