Pearson Receives State FFA Proficiency Award

Erin Pearson, a member of the Riverton FFA Chapter was recognized last week for having one of the best career development programs in the state at the 83rd Kansas FFA Convention.

Erin Pearson received a State FFA Proficiency award during the convention for outstanding accomplishments she has made in developing programs that will prepare her for a career in agriculture.


The proficiency award program recognizes students for exceptional accomplishments and excellence in a Supervised Agricultural Experience program. This program allows students to set goals and gain real-world experience in a chosen area of the agriculture industry.


Erin Pearson

Pearson won her award in the area of Agricultural Communications, sponsored by Kansas Farmer Magazine. Her SAE consists of freelance writing for Farm Talk Weekly agricultural newspaper. Erin researches agricultural topics and writes articles for the publication. She is also responsible for any photography work her stories require.

Erin has sharpened her journalistic skills and expanded her SAE to include writing freelance articles for local newspapers in southeast Kansas and her school district's website. Her work has included extensive researching and interviewing to learn more about agricultural organizations.

In the future, Erin plans to study geology at Oklahoma State University.

Erin is the daughter of Mike and Teresa Pearson. Her advisor is Jacob Larison.
