No-till on the Plains Plans Summer Expo in South Central Nebraska

Hands-on demonstrations, expert advice Aug. 22.

No-till on the Plains, Inc., will hold a summer event that promises to provide farmers with ways to increase profitability, gain better agronomic understanding of soils and their reactions to fertility, improve water quality, and increase efficiency with new rotations and sequencing of crops.

Partially funded through a grant from the Nebraska Environmental Trust and PrairieLand RC&D, No-till on the Plains offers the Whirlwind No-till Expo, Aug. 22 near Bladen, Neb.

The day-long event begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Brian and Keith Berns' farm which is one mile east of Bladen, west of Hwy 281 about 33 miles south of Hastings, Neb. and 54 miles north of Smith Center, Kan.

The Expo will feature soil pits on-site and in-the-field demonstrations, with expert speakers and experienced local no-tillers. This will be an excellent opportunity to see the rainfall simulator in action and witness the impact that continuous no-till practices have on soil. A catered lunch will be provided to all attendees who pre-register.

A Whirlwind Expo recently held in July in Pender, Neb. with 200 attendees yielded these evaluation comments from producers on the positive aspects of the event: "using an actual farm setting to discuss a continuous no-till system; seeing first-hand the [soil] pits and effects of cover crops; field observations; smooth registration; the rainfall simulator presentation was great -- you could hear a pin drop – he had everyone's attention; farmer input; field demonstrations; cover crops; equipment; the speakers; and information on fertilizer and organic matter."

For more information on the Whirlwind No-Till Expo or to pre-register by August 17, contact No-Till on the Plains, Inc. at 888-330-5142, register online at, or contact your local NRCS office.
