If you want to find young men and women you love tractors, visit Delphi FFA. That's partly because one of their advisers, Doug Walker, also loves tractors, especially older ones in need of restoration. Walker and his students restore several tractors and put them in great running condition, painted and restored, each school year.
Many of them will be on the roads in Carroll County this Saturday, June 13. You're invited to join them. It's the first annual Delphi FFA Tractor Drive, with support from the Carroll County Antique Tractor & Machinery Club. All you need is a tractor, proof that you're 14 years old or older, ability to sign a liability waiver form and $30 for a donation to the Delphi FFA.
The drive will wind through scenic country in Carroll County, starting and ending at Delphi High School. "We're excited about it because it's something our kids love to do," says Walker. "We're optimistic that we will have over 40 tractors going on the 30 mile drive with us Saturday."
Delphi FFA has participated in the Indiana FFA Foundation Tractor Drive, which was discontinued three years ago. In 2014 several members brought tractors to the Johnson County Franklin FFA Alumni tractor drive. That tractor drive will also be held again this year, and is slated for Sept. 5 at Franklin High School.
If you want to join the FFA members and adults driving this Saturday and need more information, you can contact Walker at 812-631-0448, Shawn Ashby at 765-564-9450, John Beale at 765- 412-3435 or Evan Lehr at 765-201-2176.
The primary use for donations will be to help support scholarships for FFA members, Walker says. He expects several members to drive, but also several adults who are members of the Carroll County Antique Tractor & Machinery Club. Walker hopes many of you will join him.
Yours truly plans to be there – join us in Delphi Saturday morning. Registration is from 8 to 9 a.m. EDT. The Driver's meeting starts promptly at 9:30 a.m.
