New York State Considering Non-Therapeutic Ban

Bill not limited to growth promotion and feed efficiency.

Lawmakers in the state of New York are considering banning the use of non-therapeutic antimicrobials in swine, cattle, poultry, sheep or any other animals raised for human food consumption, including animals raised to provide milk and eggs. The practice would become a misdemeanor under New York state law.

Non-therapeutic uses outlined in the bill are not limited to growth promotion, feed efficiency or weight gain but also extend to routine disease prevention and other purposes in the absence of clinical signs of disease.
