Kansas State University´s 2007 "Wheat Variety Disease and Insect Ratings" publication is now available online on K- State Research and Extension´s plant pathology Web site:

The publication features updated variety lists for hard red, soft red and hard white wheat varieties currently grown in Kansas. For each one, it provides research-proven ratings for resistance or susceptibility to a range of 14 disease and insect pests that can cause serious yield losses.

The authors - plant pathologist Erick De Wolf and entomologist Phil Sloderbeck - note that the most effective, economical and environmentally sound method of pest control usually is to select varieties with genetic resistance to disease and insect pests.

The print version of the publication is scheduled to be available later this summer at county and district K-State Research and Extension offices.
