New state FFA officers elected

Albers is state FFA president

Sally Albers of Sauk Prairie FFA was elected to serve as the Wisconsin State FFA president for 2015-2016 at the conclusion of the 86th Wisconsin FFA Convention. Albers served as a vice president on the 2014-2015 state FFA officer team. The 19 year old is a sophomore at University of Wisconsin-River Falls majoring in agricultural education. She succeeds Allison Wedig of Darlington FFA who was the 2014-2015 state FFA president.

The convention was held June 15-18 at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. The theme of the convention was "Target Success, Take Action."

A new state officer was elected from each of the state's 10 sections. Following are the names of newly elected officers for 2015-2016 and a little bit about each of them.

*Maddi Colbeth, secretary, is a member of Clear Lake FFA from Section 1. Colbeth, 20, will be a junior at UW-River Falls where she is majoring in communication studies. She is the daughter of Paul and Heidi Colbeth of Clear Lake.

*Kaitlin Konder, vice president, is a member of Glenwood City FFA from Section 2. Konder will be a freshman at UW-River Falls where she is majoring in pre-veterinary medicine. She is the 18 year old daughter of Kraig and Maureen Konder of Glenwood City.

*Joelle Liddane, sentinel, is a member of Tomah FFA from Section 3. Liddane will be a freshman at UW-River Falls where she is majoring in agricultural education. She is the 18 year old daughter of Tim and Kathy Liddane of Tomah.

*Beth Zimmer, vice president, is a member of River Ridge FFA from Section 4. Zimmer, 18, will be a freshman at UW-River Falls where she plans to major in agricultural communication. She is the daughter of Gerard and Theresa Zimmer of Glen Haven.

*Jason Roth, vice president, is a member of Juda FFA from Section 5. Roth placed third in the state FFA prepared speaking contest. He will be a freshman at UW-Platteville majoring in agricultural education. He is the 18-year-old son of Bill and Wendy Roth of Juda.

*Brenna Bays, parliamentarian, is a member of Adams-Friendship FFA from Section 6. She will be a freshman at UW-Platteville, where she plans to major in animal science. Bays, of Adams, is the 17 year old daughter of Jim Bays II and Molly and Doug Wiese.

*Taylor Halopka, treasurer, is a member of Colby FFA from Section 7. Halopka, 20, will be a junior at UW-River Falls where she is majoring in agribusiness. She is the daughter of Todd Halopka of Dorchester.

*Jared Retzlaff, vice president, is a member of Omro FFA from Section 8. Retzlaff will be a freshman at UW-River Falls where he plans to major in marketing communications. Retzlaff won the state FFA prepared speaking contest and will compete at the national convention in October. He is the 18 year old son of Dennis and Tammy Retzlaff of Omro.

*Abby Sabel, reporter, is a member of Chilton FFA from Section 9. The 18 year old will be a freshman at University of Minnesota where she plans to major in agricultural education. She is the daughter of Jerry and Cari Sabel of Chilton.

*Bryce Krull, vice president, is a member of Lake Mills FFA from Section 10. He will be a junior at UW-River Falls where he is majoring in ag marketing communications and pre-law. The 20 year old native of Lake Mills is the son of Cindy Krull-Begeman and the late Brian Krull.

Each state officer will meet thousands of FFA members and will travel more than 10,000 miles during the next year. They will attend the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky., and will meet leaders in government, education, business and agriculture.
