New Soybean Trait Offers 7-11% Yield Advantage

A next generation Roundup Ready technology claims a big yield boost over other RR lines.

A new soybean technology offers increased productivity and profitability for farmers, Monsanto says, thanks to a focus on boosting yield in Roundup Ready soybeans.

"When we asked soybean growers what technology they wanted us to invest in, the answer was clear," says Ernesto Fajardo, Vice President of U.S. Crop Production for Monsanto. "It was yield."

Monsanto claims that based on 3 years of testing, its next generation Roundup RReady2Yield technology offers a 7 to 11% yield advantage over current Roundup Ready technology. On a field averaging 50 bushels per acre, that could mean a 3.5-5.5 bushel per acre boost.

The company has not yet priced the product, and it does not intend to commercialize RR2Yield before gaining approval from certain export destinations.
