New Incentives for Biomass

Missouri FSA office calls for Biomass Crop Assistance Program proposals.

Edward Hamill, executive director of the Missouri USDA Farm Service Agency, has announced the upcoming deadline for project area proposals for the Biomass Crop Assistance Program. To be considered, proposals must be submitted to the Missouri State FSA Office by close of business, May 27, 2011.

"The BCAP program provides an opportunity for Missouri rural communities to save money create jobs and improve air quality, while reducing the demand for fossil fuels," Hamill said. "We are seeking proposals from organizations utilizing biomass in their operations to identify specific geographic areas in the state where producers can grow eligible biomass crops."

BCAP was authorized in the 2008 Farm Bill and provides incentives to eligible farmers, ranchers and forest landowners for the establishment and production of biomass crops for heat, power, bio-based products and biofuels. Hamill said producers growing eligible biomass in the specified project area may be eligible to receive annual payments for growing these crops.

Project area proposals for Missouri should be sent to the Missouri State FSA Office, Parkade Center Suite 225, 601 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia, MO, 65203, by May 27.

The BCAP project area proposal submission form, BCAP Form 20, is available online on the FSA BCAP website,
