New Controls for Eastern Fruit and Nut Producers

New miticide and insecticide registered east of the Mississippi.

Citrus, apple and pecan producers have a new tool in their arsenal against insects and disease with the registration of Portal, a new miticide and insecticide from Nichino America.

The product is registered east of the Mississippi River for contorl of mites, leafhoppers, mealybugs and psylla. It is also expected to be especially useful against European red mite and two spotted spider mites in the Midwest and Northeast. Company officials say it is also registered for pecans to control pecan leaf scorch mite in Georgia, and shows good control in Florida of citrus rust mites.

Portal is a 5% emulsifiable concentrate with 0.40 lbs. fenpyroximate per gallon. It is a contact material, has a 14-day pre-harvest interval, and an application rate of two pints per acre in 100 to 400 gallons of water for most mite species, or four pints per acre for citrus rust mites.
