NCBA Discusses Policies for 2007

The annual board and membership meetings yielded policy resolutions for 2007.

During the National Cattlemen's Beef Association annual board meeting and membership meeting, NCBA's Agriculture Policy Committee met to discuss policy for 2007. Among the policy resolutions that the committee brought forward was one calling for a market-based approach to renewable energy production in order to level the playing field for feedgrain users, addressing producers' concerns about rising corn costs.

NCBA members also approved policy voicing concerns about the possible impact of a USDA proposal to significantly loosen restrictions on cattle and beef imports from Canada.

Cattlemen also adopted a policy supporting the further development of cloning, but urging all technology companies and owners of cloned animals to voluntarily keep these animals and their offspring out of the food supply until FDA makes a final decision on its risk assessment.
