NASS Could Upgrade Some Crop Numbers

Agency will re-survey producers with un-harvested acres.

When USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service compiled its last production report on barley, oats, Durham wheat and other spring wheat there were significant acres of unharvested crops left in the fields. Officials at NASS say they will re-survey respondents who previously reported acreage not yet harvested. If the newly collected data justifies any changes, NASS will include updated estimates in the November 9 report. Stocks estimates are also subject to review since unharvested production is included in the estimate of on-farm stocks.

NASS reports there was significant unharvested acreage of barley and oats in Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming; significant unharvested acreage of Durum wheat in Idaho, Montana and North Dakota; and a large proportion of other spring wheat acreage not yet harvested in Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon and Washington.
