Mycogen Seeds' corn hybrids swept the Brown Mid-Rib Dairy Corn Silage category, earning all ten possible placings, and earned 8 of ten placings in the Standard Dairy Corn Silage category.

Mycogen, an affiliate of Dow AgroSciences, also had strong showings from alfalfa varieties in the categories of Dairy Haylage, Dairy Hay and Commercial Hay. A Mycogen Seeds grower also earned Grand Champion of the Dairy Hay category for the second year in a row.

Corn silage samples are analyzed for dry matter, crude protein, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber and neutral detergent fiber digestibility. All entries of whole plant corn silage must have been ensiled and show signs of fermentation. Hay and haylages are analyzed for dry matter, crude protein, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber digestibility and relative forage quality.

Criteria for judging finalist samples were as follows:

Milk Per Ton - 10%

The BMR Corn Silage division Grand Champion was Matt Steiner of Pine Tree Dairy Farm, Rittman, Ohio, with his Mycogen F2F797 entry. The Grand Champion Dairy Hay division was won by Mike Beun, Waterloo, Wis., who again entered his Mycogen 4A421 variety.
