Montana State U Hosts 2012 Golden Triangle Cropping Seminars

Sessions set for Jan. 16-19 throughout state.

Montana State University Extension will host the annual series of Cropping Seminars in the Golden Triangle Jan. 16-19 in Chester, Choteau, Conrad, Cut Bank, Denton, Fort Benton, Great Falls and Shelby

Speakers at each of these locations will include the following:

Dave Wichman, MSU Western Triangle and Central Agriculture Research Centers, who will present information on crop variety selection and the local variety trial results

Olga Walsh, MSU Western Triangle Research Center, discussing her soil fertility research

Jeff Rumney, Montana State Grain Quality Lab, who will probe the topic of grain quality from both the end user and grower standpoints, as well as the falling number test.

There will also be an update on foliar and rot diseases of small grain crops presented by Mary Burrows, MSU Extension plant pathologist, and Alan Dyer, MSU plant pathology researcher.

Updates on crop insects focusing on wireworm, grasshoppers, sawflies, cutworms and other pests will be presented by Cecil Tharp, MSU Extension pesticide education specialist and Kevin Wanner, an MSU entomologist.

Five private and four commercial pesticide applicator credits will be available for those attending. Pre-registration is not required for these free sessions, which begin at 9 a.m. at the following dates and locations:
