Minnesota Soybean Selects Soybean Ambassadors

Minnesota Soybean Selects Soybean Ambassadors

Three young agricultural leaders will spend the next year serving as soybean spokespeople.

The Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council has selected the following outstanding young people to be Minnesota Soybean Ambassadors for 2012:  Corey Evans of Jordan, Abby Bastian of New Ulm and Jacob Chisholm of Gary.

"The Minnesota Soybean Ambassador program has become a valuable tool for developing leadership skills and exposing young people to career choices in the soybean industry," says Barb Overlie, director on the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association and member of the interview committee. "Jacob, Abby and Corey are exceptional young people and will be a great addition to this program and the industry."

The Minnesota Soybean Ambassador program is open to college students between the ages of 18 -22.  Duties include attending state and county board meetings, providing support at events and educational meetings and participating in the Minnesota Ag Ambassador Institute. Each ambassador receives a $2,000 scholarship and the chance to earn stipends by completing additional assignments for their efforts.

"Serving as a Minnesota Soybean Ambassador last year was the greatest youth experience I have ever been involved in," Evans said. In addition to being selected in 2012, Evans was also chosen to be an ambassador in 2011. "It opened many doors for me and I am grateful for that chance to serve the industry that does so much for me."
