Dairy producers interested in new ideas and networking will have the opportunity to do both at Minnesota's largest annual dairy educational event, the Midwest Dairy Expo, to be held Dec. 4-5 at the St. Cloud Civic Center, 10 South Fourth Ave., St. Cloud.
The event includes educational sessions and a trade show with more than 120 exhibitors and sponsors.
The registration fee for the two-day event is $35 per person and includes program materials, access to the trade show and educational sessions, meals and access to hospitality suites.
David Kohl, Virginia Tech economist, will kick off the Dec. 4 expo with two presentations, "Ten Golden Rules for Young People in Agriculture" and "Good to Great Agriculture, Vision 2010." Kohl will give participants insight into changes happening in the industry and how to manage farms to improve profitability.
Program highlights for Wed., Dec. 5 include Mark Seeley, University of Minnesota Extension climatologist, who will discuss the effect of climate change on agriculture, and renowned marathoner, Minnesota dairy farmer and speaker Dick Beardsley on "Life's Roadblocks: Challenges or Stepping Stones."
Other sessions include:
-John Fetrow, University of Minnesota, on the latest practical research from the College of Veterinary Medicine
-Brian Holmes, University of Wisconsin engineer, on sand-laden manure handling systems
-Dick Wallace, University of Illinois Extension veterinarian, on practical fresh cow programs and building successful vaccination programs
-Minnesota dairy producers Brad Nosbush, with thought provoking ideas on profitable dairy farming, and Jeff Metz, who grew up in the city, on how he became a successful dairy producer; and Kit Welchlin on the different communication styles between men and women, titled "Men are from Fleet Farm, Women are from Nordstroms"
